Children learn so many skills while they play. Through make believe play they learn to verbalize ideas, which increases language skills, while cooperating with others. By using their imagination, they learn to act out realistic situations, all while observing others. They learn to share and take turns and work on their gross motor skills.

Introducing children to simple science helps them to problem solve, question, and predict cause and affect such as empty/full, small/large.

Playing with manipulative toys they learn fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, one-to-one correspondence. They learn number concepts such as counting and estimating, patterns, classifying and sorting.

Reading books they realize the concept of print, alphabetic principles, reading, rhyming, comprehension, and vocabulary.

Through art, as children draw, paint, or make collages, they learn about their world (colors, shapes, and size of objects). When they use paints, glue and markers, children are planning, trying out new things and solving problems.

Music ignites all areas of child development and school readiness, including intellectual, social-emotional, motor skills, language, and overall literacy. It helps the body and the mind work together.

So, to all those who say, "All they do all day is play." I say, "It may look like play, but we are learning all day long."
